Storms of New Hampshire

storm Meteorologist Kevin Skarupa will present "Storms of New Hampshire" on Tuesday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lane Memorial Library in Hampton.

Skarupa will discuss storms that raged through New Hampshire from the 1890s to the present. These include the July 4, 1898 tornado at Hampton Beach, a flood in Dover that changed the town's commerce forever, the 1938 hurricane, and the blizzard of 1978, which is the storm that inspired Skarupa to become a meteorologist. With four days off from school due to the snowfall, he put the time to good use and came up with a career!

Skarupa earned a meteorology degree from Lyndon State College in Vermont, and holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval and the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal. You can see him weekdays from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. on News 9 Daybreak with Erin Fehlau and Sean McDonald, then on News 9 at Noon.

Skarupa's favorite part of the job is visiting dozens of schools a year to talk with students about weather. The toughest part, he says, is getting up for work at 1 a.m. when the alarm clock goes off.

"Storms of New Hampshire" is sponsored by the Hampton Historical Society. For more information call 603-929-0781.
