"America's First Constitution"
mayflower-compact-large-poster-medium.jpg Join the Hampton Historical Society on Wednesday, February 15, at
1 p.m.
for a presentation via Zoom about the Mayflower Compact by the Liberty Tree Society of Walpole, NH. The presentation will include a discussion about the men who drafted it, and the possibility that it may be considered America's "First Constitution." The presenter, Mr. John Hansel, founded the non-profit Liberty Tree Society in 1955.

As Mr. Hansel will discuss, on November 11, 1620, the Pilgrims, having "braved the vast and furious ocean," established in America, by written Compact, the first government "of the people, by the people, and for the people." The Compact was an agreement by passengers on the Mayflower to make and enforce their own laws. Having fled persecution for their religious beliefs in Holland and England, they had no sponsor and no set of regulations to guide them. America, the land of the free and the brave, was born that day. In fact, there are a number of prominent historians, men like John Quincy Adams, who believe the Compact should be considered America's "First Constitution." Please join us to hear Mr. Hansel discuss the Mayflower Compact and answer questions about it.
