unbroken Join the Tuck Museum History Book Club with Barbara Tosiano. We have chosen to start with the book "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand. Louie Zamperini, was a rising athlete in the 1936 Berlin Olympics whose career was cut short by World War II when he joined the Army Air Corps. The story tells of his incredible tale of survival; when his plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean and he is adrift for 47 days, his years of imprisonment and torture as a Japanese prisoner of war and the struggle to make a life for himself post-war. The author calls it "A tale of daring, defiance, persistence, ingenuity and the ferocious will of a man who refused to be broken."

Barbara is a new resident to Hampton, moving here from central Pennsylvania this spring. She visited the Tuck Museum as part of checking out the community, looking for a volunteer project. Learning that she was a retired librarian, avid history reader, and enjoys running book discussion groups - facilitating a book club is a natural fit. Barbara didn't stay retired for long as she now works part-time at the Hampton Falls Library.

Our first meeting is on Tuesday, November 11, at 7PM. Call 929-0781 to join us. Sign up is by October 15. Fresh coffee, biscotti and an evening of great conversation will take place at the Tuck Museum.

Barbara shares her love of books on her blog seacoastbookjunkee.blogspot.com. Check it out!
